On this page we have provided some useful information
for you to help you plan your journey. There are a wide
range of travel options when visiting the Lake District.
Windermere train station offers a frequent service to
and from Oxenholme Kendal, and the adjoining bus station
is the focal point for local services from Kendal to Keswick
and all villages in between. National coach operators
also use both Kendal and Windermere stations.
Travel by
car:
Leaving the M6 motorway at junction 36, follow the
signs for Kendal and Barrow (A590).
Continue forward for 8.5 miles, passing the Barrow
turn off, then the Kendal South turn off until you reach
the main roundabout.
At the roundabout take the second exit signposted
Windermere (A591) and continue forward for a further
6.5 miles passing the turn off for Staveley.
Descending into the village, turn left onto Elleray
Road (A5074).
Bear left onto Crescent Road (A5074).
After the pedestrian crossing, turn left onto Broad
Street.
From Windermere station, follow the exit road towards
the village.
Passing the tourist information centre on your left,
bear left and walk along Elleray Road and enter Windermere
village.
At the Queens Hotel, turn left and walk along Crescent
Road.
Passing the Co-Operative store, turn left at the corner
gift shop into Broad Street.
Walk almost to the end of Broad Street until you reach
the terrace of traditional guest houses. We are signposted
'Glen Wynne'.
